Sunset

“Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.”

Oscar Wilde

In the rye

“Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all.  Thousands of little kids, and nobody’s around – nobody big, I mean – except me.  And I’m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff.  What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff – I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them.  That’s all I do all day.  I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all.  I know it’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I’d really like to be.”  ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

Magadan. Intro

Hello, everyone. How are you doing? 🙂

I love to travel and I’ve been to a lot of different places: from the USA to Bulgaria. And I can’t wait share my impressions, ‘left-overs’ from each trip. I will also post lots of pictures all taken by me. But first, I feel like I need to tell you where I come from. My home town is Magadan, which is in Russia, Far East.

It is that really small town at world’s end, where you can get only by air (no trains, guys). Just mountains, endless sea, gorgeous wild nature and, surely, the people. The People. I think in Magadan live the most hospitable people. We are like a huge family. You visit your friends, relatives without asking them in advance, and it’s a completely normal thing! And the nature… it’s freaking breathtaking!

You can see my dad in that one. He’s that little dot at the top of the hill.

Magadan is actually a port town. And I love the sea. Can’t live without it. It inspires me and calms down at the same time. Pure magic.

Winter in Magadan is a real adventure! When suddenly  everything and everyone becomes covered in snow (and I mean it!), you just sit by the window, mesmerized, holding a cup of hot tea/coffee or you go to the nearest store/coffee house to get warm if you happen to be on the street. Just look at these pictures.

That’s me, by the way, standing by the water. Isn’t it beautiful?

That’s the place where I was born, where I spent all my childhood (I left it when I was 18), where I first fell in love, broke my nose and met lifelong friends. It’s my home. So real, yet so magic.

A view from my apartment.

Next post will be tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed that one. If you want to see more pictures of Magadan, then visit that awesome web site http://www.magadan360.ru/ . It’s in Russian, but I think you won’t have any problem 🙂 Just click on the pictures. Have a wonderful time! Let’s Igo!
