Herbed Salmon Steak

There’s no need to go to a fancy restaurant if you’re hungry and want to have a delicious meal.  There’s no need to go to a cheap, unhealthy fast food place if you’re starving and have no time to cook. The thing is that cooking at home is actually fast, easy and cheap. And it is way more healthier than going out to eat.

I want to point out that right now we’re facing a huge problem – the food culture is changing. Not in a good way. Less and less people cook at home. Breakfasts and lunches at schools basically consist of fast food: pizzas, hamburgers, fries… Veggies and fruits in supermarkets have all kinds of chemicals in them. We need to change our eating habits. We need a food revolution. More about that – in the future posts.

So today, instead of going to Subway (even though I love their subs), I bought a fresh salmon steak. Nothing like McDonald’s fish sandwich, huh?

Seasoned it with the sea salt, pepper, basil, thyme, rosemary.

Fried it in the olive oil for about 10 minutes on both sides until it got nice and crispy.

And that’s it! Add a simple salad to the steak, some garlic bread, and the dinner is ready. Simple? Yes. Delicious? Oh yeah.

Don’t forget to put a few drops of lemon juice on the steak when it’s done. Enjoy your meal.

Linguine with shrimps

Sometimes, completely out of nowhere, I get this desire to cook. Something that tastes and looks good. Something that is simple. And usually that something is Italian. So, the other day I made pasta with shrimps.

You’ll need a pack of Tagliolini (or any other type of pasta), cooked frozen shrimps, tomatoes, creme cheese, olive oil, lemon juice, spices (I made my life simpler and got an Italian Herb Seasoning Grinder):

Blanch and skin the tomatoes, then halve them and chop into medium pieces.

Put a couple of lugs of olive oil in the pan and fry about 300g of shrimps and tomatoes for a couple of minutes. Add spices.

Add the cream, allow to simmer gently for a couple more minutes and then remove the pan from the heat. Season the sauce carefully with salt, pepper and the lemon juice

Put a pan of salted water on to heat for the pasta.

When the water starts to boil, throw your pasta into the pan.

Go for a break while pasta is being cooked.

Get the pasta out of the pan.

Put the sauce on the plate.

Add some pasta. Season it.

Maybe some Italian bread?

Call your family/friends! Or just enjoy this delicious meal by yourself 🙂

Bon Appétit!

Thessaloniki, Greece. The market

Busy, loud and bustling, the Greek Market was a hidden treasure of Thessaloniki for us. It was full of all kinds of things: juicy olives, huge octopi, prawns, calamari, fresh meat, fruits, vegetables and spices from all over the world. A  paradise for gourmets. Although we spent there just a few minutes, those minutes were as juicy and rich as the black olives shining in the sun.

Fired potatoes

Hello everyone! How are you doing?

It’s getting colder and colder here in Bulgaria. And I kinda like that. I mean, last evening I spent in a warm hoodie, drinking hot apple tea with cinnamon and watching old TV shows. It was a nice evening.

I remembered all the fun moments I had with my friends this summer. We went camping a lot. And we used to make a huge fire and throw fresh potatoes in it. In a few minutes we would take potatoes out of the fire and then eat them. Those were the most delicious potatoes in the world! They had that fantastic crust only fire could make. Warm and soft from inside, those potatoes almost melted in my mouth.

Have you ever eaten potatoes like that? I would like to know 🙂

Raspberries

Raspberries slowly melt in your mouth… They are so sweet you want to scream… It’s all pleasure, it’s all delight. Man, what a night.

Freshly baked

Smell of a freshly baked bread… It is still warm… Delicious crisp…  Those ladies make the best bread in Bulgaria 🙂

Starbucks

Words are unnecessary. No matter what people say, I love Starbucks. The coffee, the bakery they serve is excellent. Cinnamon Dolce Latte and Double Chocolate Brownie… mmm 🙂 And, most importantly, the atmosphere at Starbucks is so friendly and cozy. Almost like in the coffee house in my favorite TV show “Frinds”. A wonderful place to hang out with friends, read a book or just relax and enjoy your life.

Got mushrooms?

This summer my family and I went into the woods. See what we found there!

Sweet shop

I am sure almost everybody’s been to a sweet shop. All those fantastic sweets like M&Ms, Jelly Beans, chocolate bars, brownies, Minstrels, Maltesers, Haribo’s, Galaxy, Cream egg, Love hearts, Cola Bottles, Flying Saucers, Cola Wands, Toffee sweets, Caramel, Candy canes, Muffins, Cupcakes… And what about cakes? Well, yesterday I went to a Bulgarian sweet shop with my friends. It’s the sweetest place in the world. 🙂 That sweet shop’s got mostly cakes. Wonderfully decorated, delicious, creamy cakes. Even eclairs don’t taste like eclairs we are used too. The cream inside of them has got such a rich and delicate flavor that you are on cloud nine every time you eat them. My friends bought some delicious eclairs and I got a piece of chocolate cake. I took some pictures in the sweet shop. Hope you enjoy them 🙂

Banitsa

First of all, hello, everyone 🙂

Secondly, I love food. I love writing about food, taking pictures of exotic and no so much dishes, and, surely, I love eating food. I was visiting my friend a few months ago and she cooked Banitsa for me. I loved it instantly. Banitsa is “a traditional Bulgarian food prepared by layering a mixture of whisked eggs and pieces of cheese between filo pastry and then baking it in an oven”.

Well, right now I am in Bulgaria and I had to try Banitsa here. Personally, I liked home made Banitsa better. It’s got cheesier filling and filo pastry is really, really  thin.

Second post about food… I might be hungry 🙂
